Information about the wedding day(s)

Getting hold of us:
If you need to get hold of us via phone, you can call Lasse on his Spanish mobile (+34) 663611847 between 25 July and 3 August.

Transport to and from the wedding on the 1st of August will be provided for those who are staying in Logroño and do not wish to drive. Please, let us know if you would like to take advantage of this in order for us to be able to book the transport in advance. There will be a bus (or two) from Logroño to Laguardia in time for the ceremony. We will get back with information about exact pick up time and place of boarding soon. See also above under 'Important Information'.

There are two churches in Laguardia. Here is ours (in the street parallel to and north of Calle de los 4 Cantones):

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=es&geocode=&time=&date=&ttype=&q=calle+de+los+4+cantones,+laguardia,+Spain&sll=42.553997,-2.584276&sspn=0.003833,0.007231&ie=UTF8&ll=42.555183,-2.585135&spn=0.003833,0.007231&z=17&om=1

Please note that the doors to the church close 5 minutes after the start of the ceremony. The ceremony starts at 5.30 pm.

Also note that the village is pedestrian only, so if you travel by car, you must park your car outside the walls and then walk to the church.

Here is the restaurant, Villa Lucía (on A124 where it meets A3210, just east of Hotel Villa, on the road from Logroño to Laguardia, on the right hand side of the road just before entering the village):

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=es&geocode=&time=&date=&ttype=&q=avenida+de+san+raimundo,+laguardia,+Spain&sll=42.549397,-2.5808&sspn=0.003833,0.007231&ie=UTF8&ll=42.553554,-2.582817&spn=0.015332,0.028925&z=15&om=1

and here: http://www.villa-lucia.com/localizacion.htm. There will first be a reception with drinks and some light food at Villa Lucía, in the garden in front of the 'tents' (from 7.30 pm onwards). After that the dinner starts and then dance until 2 am. At 2 am, we will continue to a discoteque in Laguardia. It is within a 10-15 minutes uphill walk of the restaurant (see the photo of Laguardia from the air for the exact location - it is under 'March 2008'). There will be a bus from Laguardia to Logroño for those who would like to go back by bus.

If you are vegetarian, please let us know.

If you would like to make a speech or some other kind of entertainment during the dinner, please contact the toastmaster. Toastmaster: Marina Prentoulis - email: m @ prentoulis.com or m.prentoulis @ city.ac.uk; telephone: +44 207 24 901 60 or +44 7900 20 71 04 (mobile). See also above under 'Important Information'.

Congratulations. It is just great that you have (finally) have decided to get married. I'm really happy for you.

This blog is a great idea. How about adding some links to places that explain about wedding customs in Spain - so that the guests from other part of the world will know the do's and the don'ts. After all we don't want to embarrass you guys.

Hi Jette!

Thank you very much for your message. We’re very happy about the wedding too!
There is nothing you can do that will embarrass us!

There is not much to explain about customs in Spanish weddings. The day will be more or less like this: first you’ll meet outside the church to keep the groom company. The bride will arrive 5 minutes later (or so…). We’ll all enter the church and celebrate the wedding. After the ceremony, everybody leaves the church except for the bride and groom and their closest family (because the photographer will want to take some pictures inside the church). Everybody waits outside to throw rice and/or rose petals on the bride and groom when they come out of the church. Then, depending on the time when dinner starts, guests will either go directly to the restaurant or they will have time having a drink in one of the bars in the old part of Laguardia (we’ll let you know how much time we have in between the ceremony and dinner as soon as we know). In the meanwhile, the bride and groom will leave with the photographer and have pictures taken in the village and around. And then we’ll all have dinner together, and drink and dance until late at night or early in the morning, as your prefer.

Spanish people tend to be on the loud side in weddings (although Italians outdo them in this, as we found out recently in Italy), so be prepared and if you try to be louder, good luck! Our wedding will be a bit of a mixture between Spanish and Danish traditions, so you’re all welcome to make a speech or prepare some entertainment if you wish (just try not to make it too long, as Spaniards won’t understand a word of Danish!). That’s all.
